In Case You Don't Know

The meaning of ACEDIA is apathy, boredom. At its core, acedia is aversion to our relationship with God. In Ancient Greek, akidia meant negligence or lack of care. Homer writes of acedia when soldiers fail to recover Hector's body and it is dishonored by the enemy. By the Middle Ages, acedia had become a deadly sin. At one point it was the eighth deadly sin and most heinous of all. Acedia's symptoms may consist of a lack of desire for spiritual reading and prayer, a general sense of frustration, and even sleepiness or ill health.
