Paris: 6/10
Paris is definitely beautiful and very rich in culture, history and art, however it has too many problems that make the overall experience less enjoyable. I have been to Paris 5 times and each time I went I didn’t have a great experience, some of my biggest complaints - the scammers are everywhere, people are indeed very rude (I have enough for a whole post on this) and the city is quite dirty and sketchy in many places. However thanks to its architecture and museums I’ll give it a 6.
Lille: 7/10
Lille is a gorgeous city in the north of France and I’ve been there 4 times so far. The people were quite nice and the old town is gorgeous, however there just isn’t that much to do and after a while it gets boring, still a lovely place a day trip though.
Toulouse: 8/10
The pink city is a as charming as the name suggests. This beautiful, lively city is filled with Occitan architecture, amazing restaurants and gorgeous streets. It is not as elegant as Bordeaux for example but it has a wonderful and welcoming charm. Toulouse also has incredible churches like the Basilica of St. Sernin, the largest remaining Romanesque structure in the world. However, the city didn’t have much else to do.
Rouen: 7/10
The Athens of the Gothic Era is definitely deserving of this title. I mentioned above I love half timbered houses and in Rouen you’ll find them everywhere you look. It’s a gorgeous city and I really enjoyed it, there just wasn’t that much to do.
Bayonne: 8/10
I unfortunately do not have any good photos to share as by camera was broken when I went, so I apologise that the photo below is a bit blurry. Bayonne is the largest city in the French Basque Country, this fortified city is filled with amazing half timbered Basque houses as well as incredible restaurants. The weather is also great which is a plus.
