Hello Stackers!
It's Thursday so it's time for us to step into that time machine and dig up the old bones of music past.
What Throwback Tracks do you have, what takes you back?
This week after 0b1 gave me ugly kid Joe in the daily, it reminded me of this track that was played on Kerrang and Scuzz at about the same time. Somehow this joke song made it onto all those playlists.
Here's Liam Lynch - United States of Whatever. https://youtu.be/2hCR4axmA4s?si=zqFBN9rk7vpMk0hR

Such a hype song! You can't hear this and not feel just ready for whatever you needed to be ready for.
Similar to this one, just such a hype track.
Man after hearing those two, I'm just ready, I feel like I've shotgunned a can of monster energy and dry scooped some pre workout powder.

Status Quo - Something Bout You Baby I Like

This is the song that really kicked off rock for me. It came on during a Noel Edmonds show sometime in 1980. I remember seeing the video now, clear as day. It's your typical Quo bouncing rocking affair, but the video had these posters of the band on walls in the background, which came alive with the band in concert. Blew my brains out, what was this technological marvel. I then went out and bought their greatest hits, 12 Gold Bars, which didn't have this song on, it was too new πŸ˜‚.

Status Quo - Living On An Island

Probably my favourite Quo song and one of their more underrated tracks. A very reflective Quo tune, from Rick Parfitt. who's doing the vocals here. I believe the island in question is Jersey, where they holed up for a time, trying to get away from their addictions.

Definitely didn't disappoint 0b1. Great tracks.
I got to see the quo at Donnington and they were fantastic live. So much fun so much energy and just great feel good vibes.
Cool fact about them and Jersey, I didn't know they'd done that.
Fantastic band, and fantastic choice of songs. πŸ‘Š

Never disappoints, one of the all time great tracks and so nearly didn't make it on to the album.
reply
I can't believe they'd ever overlook this track now. It's so huge, the idea it almost didn't make it to the album is crazy 🀯🀯
reply
Yes, it's hard to believe now that they considered putting it on the next album, Us 6 years later. This song was such a massive success and the video as well, would it have done as well 6 years later πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Similar story with Def Leps, Pour Some Sugar On Me. It too was a very late inclusion on the Hysteria album and almost didn't make it and is the song that basically made them in to the mega band that they would become.
reply
i couldn't imagine hysteria without pour some sugar. although its not the title track, it's probably the best known track from that album, maybe even the most known Def Leppard track.
reply
I love this song!!
Check out this version of it by Northern Kings.

really diferent form the original especially the keyboard at the beginning :D
reply
Yeah the keys are really different to the pan pipe intro Gabriel used.
With the conversion to symphonic metal, adding the strings and orchestral sounds makes it somehow sound much grander. Tony Kakko is the main vocalist for this version. Northern Kings did a whole tribute covers album of 80s classics. Each member is a great vocalist in their own rights and although Kakko is the front focus in this track you can hear Marko and the others backing him up. They all have a song where they feature more than the others.

Ace of Base

Definitely worthy of a throwback mention Where did these 90s Swedish wonders go?

My husband is so mad with me right now! πŸ˜†πŸ˜† He says it's gonna take him days to get these annoying earworms out of his head 🀣🀣🀣

He should be thanking you! This is way better than baby shark or some nonsense 🀣🀣
We're having a party today with some of these tracks in here. Great submissions!
What did happen to Ace of Base? They just sorta disappeared. Guess they just retired πŸ€”

Why did she want another baby? So many questions.

The cynical side of me says it's to do with then becoming eligible for further state benefits and tax relief.
Alternatively, she just loves being a mother.
Either or.

Never thought of the state benefits πŸ˜‚

Recently rediscovered Sly Fox's "Let's Go All the Way," one of my favorite one-hit wonders from the '80s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQiGqGMT8i4

Proper one hit wonders. That mullet is πŸ”₯🀣🀣 they're making a serious come back.

A long time ago my dad borrowed a friend's broken bobbin recorder, fixed it up in a couple of evenings and that was the first song he play on it.
reply
Classic 80s sound. Great song. πŸ‘Š
A bobbin recorder!! 😱😱 I haven't seen one of those since my dad gave his away. You don't even find them in vintage shops anymore.
Remember when you had to record music off the radio in order to make a mix tape 🀣🀣 or how everyone stood by the record button waiting to record top of the pops so they could keep up to date? It's crazy how much access with have now.
