The German parliament has approved the partial legalisation of cannabis for personal use in a landmark vote that leaves the country with some of the most liberal laws on the substance in Europe.

Lawmakers in the Bundesrat, or the upper house, passed the long-debated bill on Friday, making it legal to obtain up to 25 grams (0.88 ounces) of the drug per day for personal use through regulated cannabis cultivation associations, as well as to have up to three plants at home, when the new rules come into effect on April 1.

It shouldn't be criminal but it's also got its downsides. Weed use can become habitual and cause a lot of problems for people with the high concentrations many forms THC in which it is available.

I feel like governments are not allowing it because they want you to have a good time, but to more easily allow you to escape the harsh reality of their policies.

Agree that it should not be criminal. We do not criminalize things that have downsides.

Just look at government. Mostly downsides, and they make the laws that determine whether something is legal or not.

Hopefully see some better quality "legal" cannabis start to come through Canada. Germany has some awesome genetics that are all hidden away.

Oh man.... I hope you enjoy that smell. Now that its legal here in the usa, it smells like pot at every corner. I liked it better when it was illegal, and l didnt have to smell it everywhere. Hopefully Germany wil be able to find something inbetween for the people who arent interested in that smell.

I visited New York a few years ago. Noticed the smell immediately, and it was just about everywhere.

I have been a cannabis user for many years. The smell has always been pleasant to me, but I get that it is pungent and not everyone likes it.

My gut says this is an opportunity for a young entrepreneur to figure out a cool new gadget or different type of plant product that is less odious.
