pull down to refresh

At first I thought I screwed something up. I noticed you also jacked up the posting fees for the fancy new look.
First impression:
  • Top bar is pretty clean, on both mobile and desktop
  • On mobile the bottom nav is very jarring, almost doesn't make sense with the ordering.
  • I like the side menu that pops out from the left side on mobile, but it's weird going to the bottom to get the side menu to pop out. Not sure if I've seen that design anywhere.

Not sure if I've seen that design anywhere
Me neither but is it weird or just unfamiliar? I can't tell.
One thing I'm intentionally not trying to do is be like "this is what twitter does so do that" unless I can actually reason through why it is that way.
reply
Too many positive reactions. This means SN is not mainstream software yet. Otherwise you'd have an avalanche of complaints of people who think it was better before. The same people who will complain at the next iteration with the same arguments~~

Iโ€™m mostly seeing the negative ones but Iโ€™m glad it looks mostly positive!
(I think thereโ€™s some aspect of people being less willing to zap inarticulate negativity even if they share the feeling.)
reply
It's human nature to oppose change.
As a completely unrelated sidenote, what is the book you had recommended me on our zoom call at the beginning of your SN journey? Do you remember? It was a book about how to prepare for a coding interview. Was it this one?
reply
Yes. Although there might be better ones out there and people might hire differently now.
reply
New interface. I like the sticky bar at the top. Thanks @sn!
reply
hopefully they will add the thread dropdown back on every page, though. I like the sticky bar also, but without the dropdown on every page, its a pain to navigate.
reply
the new design on mobile is quite interesting too. ๐Ÿ‘€
reply
I thought it was buggy, and I kept refreshing. ๐Ÿ˜‚
But I prefer the old look, so crowded here.
reply
I do think it's cleaner but I agree the spacing seems off.
reply
the @sn logo is also too small ( takes time to find it and click back to homepage ) could be bigger.
reply
I thought the interface was cleaner

I know, maybe if the market goes higher this can replace Amazon Web Services ๐Ÿ˜†
reply
I liked it too, it was very pretty

I almost had to go outside and get sun on my skin when I saw SN was down. The horror.
reply
Is that the yellow thing?
reply
Yes, maybe it's hiding in your neck of the woods. Rumour has it, it did not want to see the Mets play today.

Still no pull-to-refresh on iOS PWA
reply
I like a little bit more how the new update looks on the mobile phone
reply
Yes. Even more so than desktop, IMO.
reply
Yes, definitely

Totally onboard with the changes. Much more scalable but I do have a few caveats.
I personally feel like Search fits naturally better in the top nav. This is because the territory selector can become a search field instead of going to a separate search page. Showing in-line results & filters below, as you type. If the time comes to make that switch in future, the search bar will have to animate to the top of the keyboard on mobile devices and obstructing any possibility of seeing the results below.
The SN logo could probably also remain up there, as an alternative to the back button. Both are core navigation items and so being at opposite ends of the screen feels a touch strange.
Love the sidebar and sticky elements. Iโ€™m sure this will unlock a bunch of new features like teeny-territories & more, so canโ€™t wait to see what else is brewing.

Today I went in and I confess I was a little scared but I liked it.

Your title contradicts with the comments. ๐Ÿ˜œ Everyone wants the old format back. From my spy sources, I can report that SN may soon be in a situation where 'protestors may line in front of every comment box'.
reply
I don't know about everyone. Like most things, the people who don't like it are more likely to reply. I really do like it, but I don't care much about these things. It's just wallpaper.
reply
I too. I mean I also don't care about these things too much. But what do you say about the protests?
reply
I say, "let them eat cake."
reply
Haha! Sure, sure, 'let them eat cake.' Lest they don't even get the bread.

Everybody complains about something on Stacker News. I have been complaining about Million Sat Madness for a month. You know what that got me? A one way ticket to Palookaville. (It's nice this time of year)
reply
You don't need to complain for anything nor you need a one way ticket to Palookaville. You're the boss of MSM.
I had an oracle informing me that @siggy47 is the winner.

Once, the Oracle of Delphi had declared Socrates to be the wisest man in the world.
In response, Socrates said "Surely I'm not, for there's so much about this world that I don't know. I know not the meaning of life nor truth nor purpose, and so much more. Please, Oracle, let me find the true wisest man and bring them to you."
He set out about questioning everybody and anybody, searching for a wise man who had the answers he so sought. He went to the fish monger, to the politican, to the soilder and to the baker.
In the end, they all had answers to the meaning of life and truth and purpose. Family, legacy, honor, money.
But there was no one answer. No universal, agreed upon idea. Socrates returned to the Oracle of Delphi, hanging his head in shame and defeat. "I've found nobody with a proper answer, and I have no answer myself, for I am clueless and know nothing of the vast truth that lies beyond my comprehension or understanding."
"And that is why you are the wisest man on earth." Said the Oracle. "For you realize you know nothing rather than claiming intelligence like a twat waffle on twitter."
I liked the preview of the profile photo at the bottom
reply
Yes. That's nice, although I'm glad I don't have to look at a real photo of my actual mug all day.

Ah found it. I'll fix shortly
reply
honest. hate it. why would you make it more difficult to navigate? now you have to click on the icon everytime to get a new thread, rather than how unbelievably easy it was before the dropdown on every page!!?
reply
rather than how unbelievably easy it was before the dropdown on every page!!?
You mean the territory dropdown? Did you use it for navigation between posts? Or do you mean that hot, recent and top are missing inside a post now and the icon only goes to the front page?
SERIOUSLY?
You're ruining it! Please revert back to the old!
  1. more difficult to navigate
  2. 404 errors on setting page
  3. takes multiple mins to load pages sometimes now

From past updates I'm sure everything hasn't been implemented yet. Over the next few hours the kinks will be worked out and everything will be working more smoothly.
