It all started with a deal between Nintendo and Sony which did not go well and ended up in court, both were looking to make the leap to 3D and the agreement consisted of making a joint console instead of the cartridge used until that moment.
That deal broke down at the last minute and Nintendo opted to develop such a model with the Phillips company.
The president of Sony at the time, Norio Ohga, felt humiliated by Nintendo's actions towards Sony and gave the green light to the creation of a new console that would turn Sony's reputation around after such humiliation, finally in 1993 Sony Computer Entertainment division was created that was in charge of the development of software and hardware of the console to be ready to launch on the market in 1994.
The PlayStation 1 was launched almost around Christmas, in December 1994, while its competitors, SEGA and Nintendo were engaged in a battle to control the video game market and caught both companies by surprise as they considered Sony "out of the game"
Their success was partly due to the creative freedom they gave to video game studios that released video games for PSX and used the same programming language that PC video games used, i.e., the C programming language.
With all that they sold about 100 million copies of their first console with titles as good as Final Fantasy VII, Tekken, and Metal Gear Solid, and Sony went on to what was one of the best consoles of all time and its consecration as a leader in the video game market, the PS2.
Console that arrived in the year 2000, with the new millennium, and to this day is the best-selling console in the world with almost 160 million copies sold worldwide and almost 4000 different video games in its catalog, they also included the famous Joystick to the Playstation controllers.
PS2 had video games such famous as GTA San Andreas, Final Fantasy X, Resident Evil 4, and countless more high-quality titles.
All that follows is history, PS3, PS4, PS5, PSP, PS Vita, and countless doses of good times from many of us with this video console, Playstation has now been with us for almost 30 years, and for many more.
