It’s been the monetisation of everything besides (paper) money. I just find the artificial scarcity that humans create rather strange. We’ve been desperately been seeking something like bitcoin for some time.

You correctly pointed out. It's not paper trash that is responsible but it's human reasoning to accept it as a value.
About artificial scarcity - it's like humans are dumber than we can imagine. Everyone, almost everyone line up to hoard, it seems there's a race to collect shit.
