This weekend Nayib Bukele shared that El Salvador is offering 5,000 free passports to highly skilled people looking to relocate.
He wrote the initial details here and promised more details to come.
Curious to hear what other stackers think of this initiative and whether or not this should be replicated by other countries struggling with attracting immigrants.
If a country has to encourage you to come for free, I would count that as a red flag by itself. But I think you have to be insane to move there when Bukele is actively dismantling their country's constitution, installing authoritarianism, and consolidating government. I wouldn't move there for the next 10 years. Do you REALLY want to participate in an experiment by a government?????? Hell no for me. Let that shit play out and make a decision on it later.
I also think its funny that instead of working to fix the problems of your own country, Bitcoiners want to cry about it and be expats in small pockets of a country that have no problem extracting sats out of their dumbass pockets. So die hard about holding but the second a government becomes pro Bitcoin so many of your mouths salivate at the thought of leaving and spending your stack just because you're mad at your government.
It is fucking hilarious, the logic.

You've painted a cartoon of what all Bitcoiners are in your mind and you're arguing against it.
reply
Bro, are you fucking stupid? People are paying a million dollars to get passports in El Salvador under their main citizenship by donation program. 🤡🤡🤡

Fucking piece of shit LARPer, you spend more sats in a country with a higher cost of living, but you must be one of those 10% in bitcoin libertarianism as your religion because you think you wouldn't be a nobody if the world were ancap. Fucking hilarious, the "logic".

Bitcoiners are still people, and since there's no shortage of irrational people nowadays, you can count on it that there are at least some which label themselves as bitcoiners and do stupid shit.

Memes count as art right? right?

I doubt his intentions. Initially I used to think that Bukele was a man of good aspirations but now his policies of flooding his own country with foreign people makes me think why doesn't he first start taking care of his own people.

El Salvador has huge issues. But I would say that they are on the right track with some speed bumps. Calling for 5,000 highly trained scientists and artists is not what I would call "flooding". Bukele's Bitcoin gambit in hindsight appears to be a stroke of genius. That move put El Salvador on the map. Here we are talking about their country with fewer people than some big cities. Where they were in the '80s and now is night and day. Hell vs a place to even consider.
The positive impact from new tourism alone has been a boon for their economy. In comparison to her neighbors: Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador is a notable success. Is it perfect? Lol. Show me a place that is....

Anyways, it's not only 5000 people. The number is way more than that. He has made it super easy. You got money, you go and live in El dolador.
reply
Wouldn't call 5000 "highly skilled people" a flood but that's just me
reply
Nah, that's not just you. You understand bitcoin, because bitcoin IS. It is not subjective -- don't give these grifters an inch!
reply
Having smarter people from other countries move to your country does help your own people.

Extremely retarded. You are obviously an arrogant statist cuck who thinks poor people need leftists like you to come save them. You value the state and are oblivious to the value of great individuals because the notion is so distant from who you are, and on top of that, you cannot even have the positive trait of humility as a common person. Pathetic.
Don't be jealous that you would not rank position 100,000 on that weak ass attempt at being a thinker! Have fun ogling those sour grapes, loser.
The word "flooding", lol, is 5000 as high as you can count, or do you just enjoy being a lying sack of shit?

I concur there seems to be something afoot with the regime but haven't been there to verify

A few cages were rattled on this thread 😆 Now where's that Michael Jackson popcorn gif? 😂

The thing that stood out for me was that he included artists with the highly skilled.
reply
At first he invites people, next step he'll invite countries to become El Salvador and some poor counties can agree

Some of y'all are very miserable people

There a few "issues" present, that's for sure 😂

I’d be scared to be falsely accused of something and get thrown into one of those new meg-jails.

I'd be scared of losing a job as an American if I don't want to inject myself with experimental drugs giving people heart attacks

Interesting that some people are so fired up against this move, the west lets hundreds of thousands of unskilled people inside their boarders and the governments give them money and other beenfits for their trouble. Bukele wants 5000 people that he hopes will help his country to develop, how is it not a better idea than the US or EU immigration policies? Whether he can be trusted or not is another story but the move certainly makes more sense
