Over the last couple of years I've run Core Lightning nodes as well as monero nodes. I accessed them through a terminal based interface. Not all things were obvious at the beginning but I have not lost a single sat operating them. In the meantime I was locked out of my accounts with Coinbase, Tinder, and ING (bank) while I was using them through their supposedly friendly GUIs.
Out of Coinbase I was locked out because I lost access to my 2FA device and as a result was unbale to verify my identity - despite uploading all the documents requested. Out of Tinder because I was unable to follow their requests for certain facial expressions - designed to prove that I am not a bot. And out of ING I was lock out two times, one time when updating my phone number and again after loosing my phone number. Both of these cases required updating the phone number in person in the banks office and not through a friendly website / GUI.
Despite trying many times to regain access to those accounts I only managed to regain access to ING (and this only because I decided to spend $2000 in order to travel to the bank's office to verify my identity and change my phone number in person). Using such bloated interfaces costs money, petrol, and precious CPU and memory. Spending those does not at all guarantee being in control.
This is not the case with non-proprietary software.
