I grew up a huge Nine Inch Nails fan. At first the Cash cover bothered me. Now I love them both. LEGENDS.

Love that Cash cover -- just made the song his own, and showed how well Reznor's writing transcended genre.

I was chatting about this track with astro a week or so ago. And how because Cash's version was so good it really felt like his song rather than NIN.

I was in a similar boat but it didn't take me long to come around on Cash's version
Here's Sevendust's cover of Cash's cover

Amazing vocals

Awesome. I didn't know about this. Haven't thought about sevendust in years. Very cool band.
reply
I really like pretty much anything Clint touches, there's so much to choose from too
reply
Wow. I've never heard the sevendust version. It's been a long while since I've heard sevendust honestly 😂

I already posted a "Sad But True" cover in another post (#512552).
But continuing the theme, here's "Enter Sandman," both the original and the Rina Sawayama take. As John Wick 4 showed, there's pretty much nothing she can't do.

Is she in JW?
reply
Yup -- she plays Akira (from the Tokyo hotel in the first quarter of the final movie).

I think the only 1 I haven't seen yet

I got a bunch of different variations of the same track.
Phantom of the Opera!! First up the one from the movie.
Next Nightwish, Marcos vocals add a creepy and almost deranged element to the phantom. Really cool juxtaposition.
Floor Jansen and Henke Poort Henke played the phantom in the Dutch version of phantom of the opera. And Floors vocals are... Well, you'll see.
If you get a chance to watch the Dutch TV show Beste Sangers, do so. It's lovely, just good musicians doing good music.
And finally a very dark approach from Jonathan Young and Malinda Kathleen Reece. Jonathan's depiction of the Phantom goes beyond the creepy and slightly deranged phantom that Marko portrays and instead takes the phantom to a place where hiding in the shadows has caused him to descend into madness. Really really great depiction of that character.
The two of them also do phenomenal versions of "the point of no return"
and just to show his softer side, "all I ask of you"
I know that's a lot to get through... And the last two are just a bonus. But I hope you enjoy those tracks 👊

Some great ones here -- really like the Young and Reese take on it!
One more as a bonus, from Me First and the Gimme Gimmes:

I think the young/Reece take might be my favourite aswell. It's just very... Dark. Really portrays the characters how I have them in my head.
This is fun, a almost pop punk version. Very different.

Oooh these are gon a take a minute to get through haha
reply
I promise they're worth it ;)

I think I like the Nightwish

I got to see them perform this live. It was incredible. Marcos vocals can go from that growly creepy sound to that high pitch scream so well and easily. It sounds almost like the phantom is cackling and going mad. Such a cool way to do that character.
reply
That must have been pretty cool, how many times have you seen them?
reply
A few days late. I saw your post the other day but got busy and forgot to reply when I came back online.
Who did it better?
Elton John (original)
Fuel (cover)
reply
I'll vote Elton here narrowly only because I'm not really an Elton fan but I don't dislike the Fuel version
