Awesome chart. We need cross posting. I almost missed this.

Analytics is changing all sports.

for sure, i was debating where to post this one

I don't understand why and how has this happened? This is a huge huge difference. Is it reality or a joke?

Analytics. NBA values high percentage 2 pointers and 3 pointers now. Whereas before mid range 2 pointers were a big part of a lot of elite scorers games.

I wonder if the pendulum will swing back a bit now as teams will just seek to guard the basket and the 3 point line leaving elite shooters with higher percentage open shots in the mid range.

reply

Ahh! That's the reason...

I’d love to see comparable analysis for other sports like football, hockey etc. Probably harder to quantify than nba but I feel like football especially is another sport that has gravitated heavily towards analytics. Chunk plays vs dink and dunking for example

RIP mid range jumper.

reply

100%.

Amazing chart but you never know, the mid range could make a comeback at some point.

reply

Wow, drastic difference. Why doesn't anyone ever shoot from the three point in between the base and out front?

reply

So the spread and volatality both have decreased considerably.😜

reply

No one shoots from 18 feet anymore
