Circuses all the way down
Give them bread and circuses. I don't know about bread but we certainly had an abundance of circuses for our viewing pleasure this past weekend.
I love sports but at times the wide world of fun and games can be a lot to keep up with. NBA playoff games, NHL playoff games, MLB games, NFL draft coming up. It's kind of like the March edition of Million Sat Madness, occasionally you just have to take a step back and pick your battles.
With the NFL draft coming up I was having a bit of fun looking at recent drafts last night while I was watching OKC squeak by the Zionless Pelicans. I think it would be fun to talk some draft hits and misses tomorrow.
One interesting thing I did note from all this weekend's playoff action. There were 8 games in NBA and 6 in the NHL and not one road team won. Home court/ice advantage huge, at least for game 1.
MLB pool post coming up shortly and NFL Draft contest coming out today as well.
Sats for all, GR
Why did they schedule that OKC game for so late?
It was a really exciting game, but I don't like having to stay up that late.

Great for me. I prefer west coast game times actually. Everyone in my household is asleep (maybe not my son if I didn't get on him about going to bed) and I can hang out with my puppy dog and watch the game.
reply
That sounds nice. I get woken up around six in the morning most mornings, so I'm getting pretty sleepy towards the end of a late game.

Even when I had my business I was never an early riser unless I needed to be. There were times I would have to be up for a meeting or maybe we had a project starting very early in the morning but usually wasn't out the door until 9:30 most days. I am about the same now. I wake up usually around 9, take the dog out, get my daughter organized for her daily lessons, do some push ups and squats, have a light breakfast, make coffee and ready to roll on SN. Most days I go to sleep between 2 and 3 and get up around 9 unless something is going on I need to be up early for.
reply
I can't sleep through other people being awake, so kid's up -> I'm up.
Naturally, I'd probably wake up more around 8:00 and be in bed around midnight.
I also grew up way out west, so I know the joy of morning and midday sports. It's so much better.

Now that round 1 game 1 is over for both NBA and NHL playoffs, did any team or any player surprise you? Or did anything happen that you found particularly interesting?
I was surprised by Haliburton's triple single. Hopefully he plays better in the rest of the series. I was also surprised by Dame dropping 35 in the first half then go on to have 0 in the second half. And although entertaining, I was surprised by how close the OKC vs Pels game was. I thought OKC was going to destroy them, but I guess I was wrong, again amongst many other things.
Canucks won game 1. I didn't watch the game, but did jump onto the highlights. It's great to see Rogers Arena packed and everyone waving the towel again. The city feels more alive when the Canucks are playing well.
reply
I don't know that any individual thing surprised me. Maybe how well the Bucks played without Giannis and the Clippers played without Kawhi but was just surprised overall by the fact that not one road team won.
reply
I think Ernie said on Inside the NBA that it was the first time since 2013 that every home team won round 1 game 1 of the NBA playoffs.
reply
It's odd that out of 14 games not one road team won. I wouldn't have expected a lot of road teams to win, they are on the road for a reason but you would think between the two sports a couple would have. Although NHL still has two first round game ones to go so maybe it won't be a clean sweep just a weekend sweep.
reply
Like you said, it would be interesting if this was a clean sweep for the home teams for both NBA and NHL. For today's 2 hockey games, I think the Oilers will be able to defend home ice, but the Golden Knights might have a chance of taking a road win from the Stars. We shall see.
