He does. I have heard Tracy sing this live with a much softer, relaxed tone. Sometimes her songs have a little forced-ness to them. I realised I mostly prefer singing to have an effortless vibe to it rather than forced (if I'm making any sense lol). I still do like Tracy Chapman though.
Music definitely helps me relax! I like to listen to songs like that while driving home from work, it helps me get rid of the work related stress before I'm home!
