You guys are rolling with AOC and running the ball and playing 2 tight end sets every down.
I like Bowers. I just think it's silly to take a TE this early. They pretty much have to be a top 5 TE in the league right away for it to be worthwhile.
I really don’t mind that approach, but it also helps to have a right side of your offensive line, if you’re going to run the ball a lot.

Bowers was BPA. But it seemed like the raiders couldn't pay to move up and got shafted.

Many many surprises in the first round. Look at the guys still left on the board. Of course the 49ers go with a WR that fits their scheme instead of IOL, DL or CB. I don't know why I expected anything else. Shanahan is going to get himself another toy.

I think the writings on the wall about either aiyuk or deebo.
reply
I would be surprised if they are traded today but I could see them moving on from Deebo after next season. They are a lot better with him but they have a deep running back room. They can use CMC in some of the Deebo role as well and use Mason or Mitchell at RB. They probably don't want CMC carrying the ball 30 times a game anyways. Deebo also has a tendency to get hurt.

How serious is the concern about Aiyuk leaving?
It's pretty frustrating when the team just ignores glaring problems. At least your team is really good. I'm well past being able to give the Raiders the benefit of the doubt. Even if Bowers is the next Gronk, that will have been a bad pick, unless all of those tackles and corners end up being busts.

I read (maybe the vikings subreddit) that there had been some kinda QB amnesty between MN, Den, LV. With MN going for McCarthy, Denver locked onto Nix and Raiders were supposed to get penix. Allegedly that information has come from Sean Payton. But you can't trust a word out of his mouth. The falcons weren't supposed to screw with that.
I still think Rattler is now the call, he's got huge upside. Just hope that works out.

The Falcons and Raiders picks were so odd that I was wondering if they had some kind of trade arrangement that they were working on together. You see that sort of thing in the NBA all the time.
I think we're rolling with Rodney Farva and the Mississippi Mustache.
reply
It would just be so very falcons to now somehow some way come and get Brock bowers off you and just ruin Kyle Pitts career even more than they have already.

I knew they weren't going to trade Aiyuk unless they got a top 15 pick for him which teams were not going to do in a deep wide receiver draft. They have him under contract next year and they can franchise tag him the year after. I was fairly certain they would get a deal done but the St. Brown deal might have raised the bar higher than they want to pay. We will see.
While they look stacked at WR right now. They are pretty bare in the future. Jennings is a FA next year. They have an opt out on Deebo's contract next year and there is the Aiyuk situation.
They will probably pick another WR this draft. Maybe Rice or McCaffrey.
49ers need to really knock it out of the park in this draft or they are going to have a couple years or retooling coming up once they have to start paying Brock.

By my count, the niners already have 5 awesome versatile skill position guys: McCaffrey, Kittle, Deebo, Aiyuk, and Juszczyk.
Even if there's a strong case to start preparing for the future, I'd expect a Super Bowl contender to be patching up holes in the early rounds.

Shanahan says MORE!
reply
Now he has a great Wildcat lineup: McCaffrey under center and five awesome skill guys.
One thing you can count on is a surprising first round pick from the Raiders. Like you say, at least Bowers is good enough for that spot in the draft.
Raiders gonna Raider.
reply
You were left in a bad spot really.
Reach for ratller? Trade back maybe? Or just go BPA. I think you did what you could with an unfortunate position the way the board broke. But bowers is going to elevate the whole offense he's really good.
reply
They could have taken Fuaga or whichever CB they liked best, like we all expected them to do.
Congrats on getting your QB without trading the farm for him.
reply
I expect them to be aggressive in the 2nd round really.
Hey at least you didn't make the most confusing pick of the day, that honour goes to the falcons 😂 those guys are crazy!
Cheers, I'm very happy with how Kwesi conducted this draft he absolutely cooked. I'm not sure who I'm more excited for McCarthy or Turner. Cos man I really loved Turner but I never thought we'd get him.
reply
The problem with that is that Penix was the QB we were hoping for.
reply
Yeah, the falcons screwed a lot of people with that pick, and it made zero sense after signing Kirk to a 4 year contract with 2 years full of guarantees. 100mil is a lot of money to commit to then draft their replacement a month later. I think Kirk might be available via trade if you called them up 😂
