Round 1 goes to...
Who won the first round of the draft?
Three teams had 2 picks. Bears, Cardinals and Vikings. Out of these 3 teams who had the best first round? I like what the Vikings did getting their QB and an Edge but hard to argue with the Bears getting Williams and Odunze.
And out of the remaining teams that only had one pick who did the best? Chiefs trading up to get Worthy was likely unnecessary but didn't cost much and they are reloading with receiving weapons for Mahomes. Bad news for the league. I think the Lions got awesome value at a position of need taking Arnold at 24 and I am not too pleased at the prospect of Byron Murphy destroying the 49ers suspect IOL twice a year for the Seahawks.
Those are my notable winners from the draft, outside of the teams that got top QBs and WRs.
I am still scratching my head about the Falcons.
6 more rounds to go, so I am sure there will be much more to discuss.
MLB Survivor Pool Week 5 pick selection post will be coming up shortly.
Sats for all, GR
I'm bias. But it's the vikes for me. That was fantastic work by our GM, aggressive where necessary and didn't spend too much, still protected our 1st next year. Moved some small change picks around here and there. But really did awesome work to secure the QB of the future and a guy who's going to be a talisman on the edge for years to come. Bravo Kwesi, bravo.
Yes the bears got some great players, but honestly... You kinda couldn't screw those picks up. So they can have zero credit from me 🤣
AZ had a nice draft. MHJ is going to be a real problem in the league. And Darius Robinson fills a glaring need at edge for them since JJ Watts retirement.
The lions keep retooling and bolstering that secondary, but hey, they have got to face our receiving core twice a year 😉 ain't that right @tnuts420
Murphy at the Hawks is gross, and that's only because I just don't like the Seahawks. He is a stud and yeah GR like you said, that suspect OL is going to land BM2 a serious payday when he's able to put up serious numbers courtesy of your OL.
The falcons??? What in the??? I just can't work it out at all... I'm fairly certain @Undisciplined is throwing darts at pictures of Raheem Morris and Terry Fotenot. Because the raiders are the ones who took the biggest hit from the falcons move. But maybe cousins is available for trade now?
reply
i'm just pissed i have to root against jj now. but on the bright side, it gives hutchinson a chance to tee-off on an old teammates a few times a season.
i love the lions first pick, we definitely needed to shore up that secondary. but i think brad holmes was thinking more about winning the league, than beating the under 500, finished 3rd in the nfc north, qb carousel that is the vikings. i could be wrong though
reply
🤣🤣🤣🤣😱😱😱😱 thems be fighting words 🤣🤣🤣🤣😱😱😱
Not gunna lie, Hutchinson is a problem. Dudes an absolute beast.
I gotta admit, I think Brad Holmes has a done a great job with the lions franchise. And Dan Campbell seems like the kinda coach that players would run through a wall for. If they weren't division rivals I think I could maybe cheer on the lions one time... Maybe 😉
reply
No, I love taking the top TE prospect two years in a row.
reply
🤣🤣🤣
Oh U-D! I can almost hear your disappointment.
reply
Raider Nation certainly has plenty of experience with that.
reply
I feel ya U-D. The seasonal cycle of believe -> let down, is common to both our franchises.
reply
Smash mouth football. Do you have a FB? Need 2 TEs a HB and FB every down. This is the way. AOC only throws third and long or to TEs over the middle. Tell your WRs to take the year off.
reply
What wide receivers? 😬😬
reply
Davante MF'in Adams. I'm pretty sure the Vikings are familiar with him.
reply
I remember he was good once. Right after he stopped wearing green and gold (because it's impossible to be good in that jersey) and when he donned the silver and black. For about a season before he suddenly wasn't who he used to be.
Nah I'm just yanking ya chain, Adams is a stud. I'm also a big fan of the slot machine Hunter Renfrow but he's gone now. You guys have had great talent at WR. Jakobi ain't no slouch either.
reply
For about a season before he suddenly wasn't who he used to be.
There's no better example of how terrible Josh McDaniels was than that he managed to make Davante a non-Pro Bowler.
I really like Jakobi. Expect to see him used more creatively this year.
reply
Yeah, truly mismanaged.
AOC showed some flashes of talent. Maybe they think with the right weapons he can succeed. Alternatively they don't think they're going to compete for a bit so they're just getting young athletes to build a roster over the next couple years and look to compete in maybe 2 years?
I had to check, but it looks like we haven't re-signed our big FB who can't catch a football. We do have a big RB who can't catch a football, though.
On the bright side, it should be a really good play-action or RPO team. That will offset our lack of an O-Line a little bit.
reply
Who would you like to see them draft in round 2?
reply
I ran a mock this morning and took Kingsley Suamataia.
I'd be happy to see them take Cooper Beebe, also. We've needed to improve the right side of the line since Gruden traded our guys away and tried to replace them with Alex Leatherwood.
reply
Beebe would be a solid add. Dudes got anchor.
reply
Doesn't address OT but I would not complain if the rest of the draft looked like this for 49ers.
reply
3rd TE is an interesting choice.
What about bundling some of that stuff together and trying to get JPJ?
I don't get why the 49ers wouldn't be in 100% win-now mode. You have the most talented roster, but a lot of those guys have pretty extensive injury histories. Who knows how long your window will be open?
I like Kingsley. I thought there was an outside chance the 49ers took him in R1.
reply
Who do you want the Vikings to draft in round 2?
reply
As it stands we don't pick again until day 3 I think.
But if our GM finesses his was back into the 2nd round, at this point, whoever he takes I'm good with. In Kwesi I trust.
But if he came back in and got JPJ or Zach Frazier 👀👀👀 that would be spicy.
Hell I'd love Jerzhan Newton or a corner. If he can get into the right spot to grab Newton or Kool-Aid or OMG Cooper DeJean. I think if personally fly out to MN and build him a statue with my bare hands.
reply
I am surprised Newton, Dejean and kool aid didn't go in the first.
reply
Yeah me too, but you look at who was drafted and for the most part (looking at you falcons) each pick has made sense. Who would you take out of the first to get them in?
reply
I was surprised Nix went in the first. Also surprised the 49ers took Pearsall in the first. Legette over Mitchell in the first was surprising. Guyton instead of JPJ, even though NFL values tackles a lot more. I didn't think Robinson would go before Newton but again it's a case of NFL valuing edge over DT.
reply
Yeah, it's a passer and get the passer league and even though newton is a destructive force of interior pressure, the NFL just had their eyes set on edge.
Leggett was a homer pick I think, a crowd pleaser. Fans love a home town guy.
I also don't think Nix was a 1st round guy. But there'd always been rumblings that Sean Payton liked him. So although it's a reach, if you're reaching for your guy who's going to be your guy for the foreseeable future, then no one's going to mind the reach if he brings results.
Pearsall was a luxury pick, sure there's quite a few other needs for the 9ers but that one's a bit of a head scratcher. Perhaps they feel they can flesh out the rest of their needs in the later rounds, there's still plenty of talent available even down in the 6/7 rounds. I think there's going to be a bunch of huge UDFAs available.
Guyton I guess like you mentioned is Tackle being valued over any other oline position, but if I remember right, guytons got some decent positional flexibility but he's not a center like JPJ. Graham Barton over JPJ with the buccs pick was interesting. But I guess they're different styles of center and perhaps the buccs wanted what Barton brings more than what they saw in JPJ.
reply
49ers second round pick will be interesting to me. If a CB or IOL of value is sitting there are they going to take him.
If they were going to trade Cousins you would think they would have done it last night so they could get a first round pick in the package. I don't know what those guys are doing. I guess the Buccs will continue to win that trash division with 9-8 records for the foreseeable future.
reply
Bit if a circus really aren't they.
But... But... Remember when the Eagles took Jake Hurts? And everyone was like WTF they just won a superbowl with Foles? And still had Wentz? (Before he fell off).
That panned out for them alright.
reply
I agree that it's hard to say anyone had a better draft than Chicago. Which also means they had the best draft last year.
The Jets' move was small, but really nice: pure upside.
I also really like the match of Arnold with the Lions and he's great value at 24.
I'm now guessing that the Raiders will go WR, EDGE, RB, DT, LB, S. We'll have the deepest depth chart ever.
reply
Yes nice trade back by Jets. I also don't hate the Bills trade backs in retrospect with good receivers left on the board for them it seems to have worked out. They have a lot of holes to fill but I don't like the idea of giving your enemy the guy they want. I know they aren't in the same division but how many times has KC knocked Buffalo out of the playoffs? Why make them better?
reply
When X worthy burns their secondary to score a walk off TD in the AFCCG bills fans are gunna look back on this draft and crucify their GM.
Agree, jets made a smart move, drop one pick up some change. You know the vikes weren't coming for your guy. Smart business.
reply
Yea the falcons made some questionable moves. That was weird...
reply
Sign a QB for 4 years and then reach for a QB at 8. Very odd.
reply
As a general rule, if you have the first pick and don't fuck it up and you get another decent pick, that's going to be the winner, at least going out of the gate. Will be interesting, as always, to see what happens with the QBs over the years. The number of can't-miss QBs who've missed isn't exactly small.
reply
Do y'all remember The Chosen Rosen? Went from a first round pick to out the league in what seemed like a flash of lightning.
reply
Definitely. More miss than don't.
