Do you daydream and wonder what it would be like to be the hero of a story? You know, like the ones that we read in books or watch in movies?
I know I did… after all the hero always gets the girl in the end!
What if I told you that you already ARE that hero?
You may think that I am crazy - many do!
But, I want you to hear me out!
Let’s take Spiderman (it’s the only film I can think of) - how did he start out? When he woke up in the morning as Peter Parker, did he ever think that he would one day be known as a superhero who saved lives and caught the eye of the girl of his dreams? Did he believe in himself? Did he even have big dreams?
No.
Don’t get me wrong, he was happy enough, but he didn’t dream, he didn’t get caught up in an idea, he didn’t wake up and feel how powerful he was, until fate intervened and he got bitten by that spider.
Even then though, he knew he had something special but he was scared of it. He went through trials and tribulations to gain knowledge of what he was becoming. He had to practice and hone his skills. He had to delve deep into his inner self to realise how he wanted to use his new power. He then had to deal with people trying to stop him, he nearly got beat and he retreated - having to take time out so he could regroup and come back stronger. He had to gain new insight and gather more strength to defeat his enemy in that big fight scene that eventually took place. And, then and only then did he have an appreciation of who he was, his surroundings and the beauty of life, allowing him to step into his own world and take charge of his own destiny.
You may notice when you delve into a good book or watch a movie that all good stories are built like this, and that is for good reason!
Because, they are a portrayal of US.
We are all hero’s.
We all have superpowers, even if we are not aware of them. We are all capable of tapping into them, IF we choose to.
Basically, we are all Peter Parker!
Everyone starts out a fool, not knowing which way to turn, or what is at the bottom of that cliff that we want to jump off - and it is scary to jump, but if we do, then the journey to stepping into OUR world, and not the world that we have been programmed to live opens up and it truly is magikal!
