Few Bitcoin apps are leaving Google Play recently.
That reminded me that I got soft and chose convenience over resilience. I stopped downloading APKs and opted for one click installs and auto updates.
What would I like to do is:
  1. clone the GitHub repositories of apps I want
  2. Build the app locally (and help in documentation)
  3. Verify the signature
  4. Install the app on my phone
  5. Seed the release package to Torrent network
What I need from app devs:
  1. GitHub repo
  2. APK file and signature
  3. Torrent to seed the release package
APK files are great. There's also Aurora, to get apps without a google surveillance kraken. But yes, the direct apk is much better. There's also F-Droid, APKmirror, and itch.io.

Obtainium allows you to install and update apps directly from their releases pages, and receive notifications when new releases are made available. https://github.com/ImranR98/Obtainium

I'll try this, but it adds another trust layer for convenience.

What is the trust layer you are referring to?
If anything, Obtainium removes a trust layer.

On second thought, I have to check this project to verify their approach.
I was assuming that they have a server to keep an updated list of app versions. I might be wrong.

You still put important shit on your phone?

The phone is for using Bitcoin on the go.
I use my computer for more intricate stuff.
