It's been less than a week since I was recommended Obsidian on SN, and since starting to use it, I wanted to share my first impression and current perspective. Many describe Obsidian as a "second brain," and while I somewhat agree, I see it more as an external mirror of my mind's current state. The advice from seasoned users is to start by simply taking notes and gradually incorporate linking and tagging to build the "second brain" over time. I've taken this advice and have begun by opening a "daily note" and jotting down whatever comes to mind.
What I've noticed is that my notes cover a wide range of topics and ideas. Yesterday, for example, I wrote about articles I read on SN, analyzed the Champions League game between Bayern and Real Madrid, documented my gym session, and reflected on the importance of the Mind-Body Connection. My notes are somewhat scattered, often random, and lacking organization—much like the internal workings of my brain. Obsidian serves as a powerful tool to visualize and understand the state of my mind.
Some may have a brain similar to mine, filled with random ideas and thoughts lacking structure. Others may already think in an organized manner, and their Obsidian likely reflects this with clear organization and structure. I've seen Obsidian setups on YouTube that resemble proper novels, complete with a table of contents, while mine is more chaotic. It's amusing to see how my cluttered Obsidian mirrors the state of my room—a visual representation of my internal thought process.
