Lake Titicaca (Bolivia-Peru) is the highest navigable lake in the world, with an altitude of 3,812 (3,812) meters above sea level. It is also one of the largest lakes in South America, with a surface area of 8,372 km² (8,372).
There are also numerous islands in the lake, some of them inhabited by local communities. Among the best-known islands are the Island of the Sun and the Island of the Moon, considered sacred by the Incas.
Among other lakes in the world, at the bottom of the image Lake Baikal (Russia) stands out - 446 meters high and 1642 meters deep and Lake Superior (USA-Canada) - 183 meters high and 406 meters deep.
However, the highest lake in the world (non-navigable) has an estimated surface area of 3 hectares and is located in the Tibetan Himalayas, 6,239 meters above sea level, just over 2 km from the summit of Everest. It is Ridonglabo, a lake so remote that little is known since it is also located near one of the least used routes to reach Everest.
