scrolling, scrolling, and more scrolling.
it seems like an inescapable action nowadays especially with the constantly involving landscape of social media. our phones, laptops, and tablets have become extensions of our body. once we hear our devices beep with notifications, we can't help but take a look at the next viral video, pictures, or music that seeks to entertain or peek our interests.
i'm a victim of this, and so is pretty much everyone i know.
so why is it that we let social media occupy so much of our time and energy when we know full well it's not at good for us?
why is it we willingly become zombies attached to screens?
quite honestly, i think it's because we have nothing better to do because of all the time we actually have on our hands outside of working and schooling hours. we refuse to let ourselves get bored, because boredom means "we do nothing or aren't doing anything". with social media, we are stimulated constantly.
and it's kind of like being sucked into the matrix where our minds need be occupied somewhere else. and waking up to what is actually real, well, sucks.
think about it for a second.
what would you actually be doing if social media or technology didn't exist?
for me, i still take interest in analog activities such as reading books, writing in my daily journal, going outside for walks at the beach, and heading to the park to take in the fresh air of the day. just the more simple things that remind me of why it's important to exist in the real world.
do you think there is a hobby or activity you would put your heart and soul into if a distraction as big as social media wasn't around?
let me know in the comments.
