it's almost the end of the week, and today, i decided to pay my old work place a visit to say my hellos and how are you's to my coworkers and supervisors. it was nice getting reacquainted with everyone again, and i sat in on their end of year meeting.
i'm glad i stayed for the meeting because one of the exercises was to take a walk outside in complete silence for five minutes.
we were asked to take in our surroundings, and truly see and feel everything that was going on around us. i felt the sun shining on my face, the breeze blowing my hair around, the sight of the colorful buildings and plants, and feeling the texture of conrete and grass on my boots. on top of that, i heard the sounds of construction and the birds chirping at each other.
this reminded me alot of the time i had spent out in japan. whenever i felt like i was in my head too much, i would take it upon myself to take a walk outside, even if it meant taking a casual browse inside the convenience store around the corner. or walking to the main train station of the city i was in, and back to my apartment.
when you're able to put yourself in a position that gets you into your body, your mind becomes less... reactive, and oppressive. so if you ever feel like your mind is running around in circles just seeking to plot your very unlikely destruction, get some fresh air and take a short walk in silence.
it is alot more powerful than you might think.
