A few observations about this ad:
  • It was posted by a user who logged in with lightning, so requiring that is not a sufficient solution to mitigate spam
  • New users get five free comments, which is five opportunities to post ads for no cost
  • There is no mechanism for filtering out ads like this one because there is no way to identify it as an ad until you see it
I suspect that an increase in the number of ads like this will force @k00b to consider not giving new users five free posts anymore

I agree. If spam increases is because there already are many people lurking around here. Maybe it's time to limit the initial free posts. What do you think @k00b ?

  1. How do you know how he logged in?
  2. Of course but transfering 10k sats is worth very little but could pay for spam for years
  3. Stacker News is also a platform that not only can draw from the existing Bitcoin community but also bring people from the outside into Bitcoin. Changes to stop spam could SN growth in this adressable market

How do you know how he logged in?
I looked at his username, which is the first 10 characters of a pubkey. That is the style of username stacker news gives you when you create your account with the "login with lightning" option. I suppose it's possible he logged in via some other method and chose that as a username, but that seems less likely to me.
