To get its financial problems under control, the European Union should rely on the ancient Roman principle of tax lease. The Senate (or the respective imperator) grants a license to some state parasite, who can then quietly plunder the respective province. This would quickly solve the problem of Eurobonds and national debt.
Or they just keep on robbing the people blind by debasing the currency...
The EU wouldn't mind to employ a parasite but they don't have a fitting candidate though.

The only thing in our power to do is to take refuge in hard assets, such as Bitcoin and gold.

Right. it is all the sadder that we see almost no Bitcoin adaptation in Europe. i was just in Vienna for a week, visited two Bitcoin stores, talked to the people there, basically the same people are always buying and only a few are joining. let's see what happens in the euphoria phase!

Life in Europe is very fast, and people don't stop to investigate anything, only a few of us do, but as you say, when the euphoria comes, they will realize it, and they will enter Bitcoin without having studied anything and the same old thing will happen again, that's what I think.

The purpose of the EU was to rebuild a continent ravaged by a war.
Later, it was also used successfully to lift Eastern Europe out of post-soviet poverty.
With these objectives complete, most of the EU structures should now be disbanded and the whole thing reduced to a free trade union.
But we know very well how effective bureaucracies are at dismantling themselves.
