England have had a rough start to their T20 World Cup campaign. Their first game against Scotland was washed out and they lost their next game against Australia comprehensively. The defending champions are in a precarious situation and a foot wrong going forward can end their Super 8 qualification chances. Scotland bolstered their net run-rate against Oman courtesy a quickfire run-chase. England now not only have to win both their group games against Oman and Namibia but have to ensure that they do so by a sizeable margin. The Englishmen will also hope that Australia defeat Scotland by a substantial margin if they are to pip the Scots on NRR.
Toss Update -
England have won the toss and have opted to field
England have to win it by a big margin to remain in contention for the super 8s. So, England will try to chase whatever score Oman gets in a quickfire. This makes the game very interesting. I would love to see a rain of sixes today in the second innings.
Pitch Report -
Hot and humid in the middle and there’s a healthy breeze blowing across and it’s in the directon of the longer boundary. 64m on one side and 54m hitting into the breeze, the straight boundary is 74m. It’s very hard and very even, the English bowlers have to make an adjustment from Barbados. The bowlers have to target the 5-6m area to get purchase. It’s harder and the quicks will enjoy it.
Preview -
Heading into the World Cup as one of the favourites, England have stumbled early resulting in a nervy qualification situation. The initial washout to Scotland and a comprehensive defeat to Australia by 36 runs compounded by a poor NRR of -1.80 has made progress tricky. It remains to be said, however, that it is not doom and gloom for England with Oman and Namibia their remaining two opponents and they would fancy their chances to get two massive wins.
Oman come into this fixture without a win in any of the three games they have played. A thumping defeat to Scotland who chased 151 in merely 13.1 overs has knocked them out of the tournament. However, personal pride and an opportunity to play spoilsport against the defending champions will be motivating factors.
