Same here in Turkey. 
These animals have completed the process of evolution as the closest species to humans. So the problem is not with them, but with us humans. Because of our wrong lifestyle, these animals are perishing. 
Public awareness is an important issue.

I have only driven through that area a few times but really hate to see that outcome for the animals.  I mean the example in the story sites a couple going through a divorce..  not good enough reason to neglect those animals 

As an arizona local, this is so sad. I think there needs to be stricter punishments on animal cruelty. here.
