It is a culture that was formed on Twitter. It is a culture that is unique in its entirety to Twitter. You have Bitcoin, and you have Bitcoin related communities on various platforms who may have developed their own customs. "Bitcoin maxi" is nowhere near the right description for this group.

Respect!
reply
Yeah k00b was actually zapping people 100 sats as a default zap amount in those days and everyone else was zapping 1 sat and I felt real brave because I raised my zap amount to 15 sats lmao
reply
Yeah. At this point it's clear that few people zap a lot. The way to actually scale SN is to get more people instead.
reply
March 2022. Nice. Some people still zap alot.
reply
What's march 2022?
reply
That's when you joined.
reply
The push to get people from 1 or 2 sats up to 10 or 20 was pretty successful. However, getting people to go much higher has been like tilting at a windmill.
The problem with scaling is that we haven't been able to accomplish that either.
reply
You mean in number of users?
reply
Yeah, if you look at the analytics page, you'll see that the number of stackers and spenders has been declining lately.
reply
Just now I was looking at the analytics, and a little more than 10 users registered today, I think it's little, I'm realizing that the people who zap are getting less and less, I zap like crazy but I don't see reciprocity sometimes, I've been in SN for 1 year, I'm not an OG, but I remember better times in terms of zapping.
reply
I'm really not sure what happened, but it coincided with MSM, which did rub a lot of people the wrong way.
Did you compare to the trend from last year? I feel like the summer months were slow last year too.
reply
Yes, last year in June there were about 856 registrations, now we have more than half a month and we have about 300, we are going at a slower pace even though SN is larger than last year.
Respect to you to for being an OG.
reply
Even when I joined, the norm was still 1 sat zaps.
That may have even still been the case when @grayruby finally joined Stacker News.
reply
Yeah I'm like why is grayruby calling me an OG I've seen their nym around forever, but then I look and its like November 2022 and I'm May 2022 and I'm like well alright I guess I was on here for a couple of months before them....lmao
reply
I feel the same way. All of you who were already here when I started reading and posting feel like a different class of stacker.
reply
Well you picked up on the techniques pretty quick and improved on them.
I had a few well structured articles before, but I stopped because I need to actually build myself more lol.
Like I'm going to continue the altnet series....when I get setup demonstration done, which I can't do yet because I need to hit the books hard on RedHat for career reasons, but even then I think I might focus on learning flakes because I feel that's really important (probably more important than a hypothetical altnet that no one seems to have a need for right now)
Maybe I'll write an article about getting your shit together when you have too many ideas and not enough time to do it all lmao.
reply

Haha. Make that a top priority.
When you are 3 years old like SN, 6 months is a long time. Besides I just like using cool kid language like OG.
reply
So if I've been here for 1 year and 1 month am I an OG? Hahaha, I'm just kidding
reply
reply
indeed 💪⚡
reply
OMG! @koob can stop a moving train with his butt! A man of insanely powerful capabilities, then and forever!
reply
Thanks for posting this daily! I eagerly look for this post for it is fun reading about all those rimes when it all started.
Top stacker 3 sats .. can we imagine this would ever be again? No, it must have been fun and lot of patience those days.
reply
Thanks! It's amazing how newcomers on SN can now easily know that some of them who they come accross suddenly here are one of the pioneers of SN.
I've never thought of @gmd to be among the few starting forces behind SN. But his comment with two words 'Lyn Alden' has made me accept it! Respect to everyone who joined SN in its sprouting age.
reply
For context, that comment was about an article talking about the Bitcoiners you see on twitter talking about cast iron pans being something that makes you a Bitcoiner. So, yeah some weird stuff those guys do on Twitter.
reply
I remember the cast iron vs stainless steel debate.
reply
Don't give them context. Make them click through to find out what you're talking about.
reply
Nah man I don't want people making assumptions thinking I'm defending ordinals or some scammy grift like that lmao
reply
How can it be repeated?
reply
They're daily metrics. There's no reason a particular post or comment couldn't be on top two days in a row.
In the early years it seems to be due to a lack of volume.
reply
I am interested to know the list of first 50 people who joined the SN first. And how many of them are still active?
reply
That would be interesting. @k00b or @ek, is that something we can see easily?
reply
32 sats \ 1 reply \ @k00b 17 Jun
I don't think there is an easy way. The closest would be looking at top users for the first couple months probably.
reply
No issue. I was just interested to know this.
