Listened to this on my walk yesterday.
To quote from the description:
In 1994, the Vancouver Canucks had made it all the way to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the New York Rangers. When they barely lost, fans expected the team to come back blazing the next year. Instead, 1995 was a total letdown. Team chemistry disappeared and fans started looking for an explanation. Quickly, a rumor took hold: a defensive player had been having an affair with the goalie’s wife, which destroyed team morale and left the franchise flailing.
I'd never heard this rumor (though I've also never followed the Canucks), but I've heard similar ones about other teams (and they point out how common this kind of rumor is late in the show). Watching how the rumor formed and warped here is kind of fascinating.
There was a small riot in Vancouver after game 7. It was big news in Canada.

A small riot? We have medium-scale ones in the US when we win, let alone lose!
reply
I guess it was a big riot by Canadian standards.
