Asteroid 2024 MK will fly past Earth on 29 June at approximately 13:45 UTC (15:45 CEST). It is between 120 and 260 m across and will pass within the orbit of the Moon.
The asteroid was discovered on 16 June 2024, only 13 days before it passes Earth. It poses no risk to our planet, but the fact that it was discovered so late highlights the need to continue improving our ability to detect potentially hazardous object in our cosmic neighbourhood.
I might need to setup a bitcoin bounty for discovering "new" asteroids.
Maybe the equation to figure out Sats bounty amount should be:
(S / C) x D x 1BTC
S = (Size of asteroid in meters) C = (Closest Approach in KM) D = (Number of Days from discovery till closet Approach)
For this asteroid:
(260 / 290,000) x 13 x 1BTC = 1,165,517 Sats
Just my first thoughts
