Back again for another edition of Unhittable. Where we marvel at the wonder that is modern day pitching.
Grayson Rodriguez of the Orioles is one of the more promising young pitchers in MLB. His average fastball sits above 97mph. If a batter is geared up for a heater and Grayson decides to drop a deadly 82mph changeup instead. Good luck!
That pitch was unhittable!
Sats for all, GR
It has to be in the right context, though. Imagine how easy it would be to hit it if you are ready for it. A free home run. But it is a nice pitch, switching it up that much!

Yes but it is tough to sit on a change up when the pitcher throws 3 other pitches all at a faster speed than the changeup. If you sit on the changeup you have no hope of catching up to his other pitches.
Plus this one had great downward movement so even if you were sitting on it you probably hit it into the ground as it drops out of the zone below your bat path.

That is true. Baseball is really a psychological game between the pitcher and the batter. More than people realize.

Damn. Yeah, that's a fantastic pitch. Makes hitters look amateurish.

I don’t know how you are supposed to be ready for both 97 and 82. Yikes.
