According to the International IQ Test website, that is.
The ranking was derived based on the number of people who took its free IQ test on its site.
So, I wouldn’t place much stock on the results. We don’t know the extent to which the respondents are representative of their home country.
Still, I confess that it gave me pleasure that Singapore came in 5th. But I guess we are expected to do well. After all, we have one of the highest myopia and sleep deprivation rates in the world. We mug for good grades. Parents in other countries might be preoccupied with sending their children to sport training sessions and enrichment activities on weekends, but here in Singapore, we chauffeur our kids from one tuition centre to another.
Here’s an example of a tuition centre trying to recruit more customers:
Anyway, it seems to me that the world might have undergone a gradual shift and recognised that Emotional Quotient and Adversity Quotient are important traits. Nonetheless, survey results associated with academic prowess still hog the headlines because we are unduly impressed by high IQ scores. Old habits die hard.
How would you rate the intelligence of the average citizen in your country?
...I'm the lowest in my family. My dad and sister are like 120+, my uncle went to genius school and I'm 99...I got short changed! However, I noticed I like to study. ;)

On the flip side... You're one of the brightest at the bottom! Welcome to the club!

Well you are driven in your own way, writing extensive Nostr guides n stuff. Your IQ doesn’t preclude you from making an impact.

I think that it is a very particular way of measuring people's IQ... and obviously with the idea of promotion... Here in Lima, Peru I think that there is a lack of drive and a lot of initiative from parents to take their children to secondary activities that they do not be exactly the basic school... I think that with more effort and motivation from the parents the level of education, but complete education, would improve a lot... Personally, since I arrived in this country 7 years ago... I am looking for a way and way to have my child male in activities where he can burn his energy and thus grow physically and mentally 👍

I have a five-year-old son n face the same struggle as you. Boys will be boys haha

Kids take iq tests at an early age here. So they get gradually better at taking the test, it's not the iq that goes up.
Similarly, I got better at math olympiad questions the more i studied them.

This sounds suspiciously similar to my country’s situation. Nine-year-olds go for classes that will hothouse them to ace questions that will come up in the Gifted Education Program selection process. Haha

You're right to be proud of Singapore, this country strives to elevate human value in every way and assess human intelligence. In my opinion, emotional intelligence plays a role in defining human essence and should have a place in these assessments.

Given that Indian Americans routinely trump the spelling bee, I think those who migrate to America ought to be the cream of the crop.
