two of my closest friends are meth addicts. these are prescription methamphetamines, and they have been on them probably longer than an average street addict. they are high-functioning robots in their lives. the brain activity is indistinguishable, if measured with imaging and electrodes, so it's not a hyperbolic statement.
in my opinion there are only two ways out of such a scenario:
  1. hitting max pain and rock bottom, and hope they recover
  2. intellectually brute-forcing with arguments and hope they listen
maybe bitcoin can help too. one of them happens to have substantially more, and he is probably closer to giving up the addiction. coincidence?

psychiatrists typically start people on these drugs, but family physician can then continue the prescription indefinitely, or as per patient's request
