First, “sub-Saharan Africa” does not make sense from a geographic lens.
Second, It divides Africa according to white ideas of race. When one uses the suffix ‘sub’ to refer to ‘below,’ images of Africa as all inferior.

Below the Sahara desert is a geographical phraseology and not a racial one unless it happens to be the case that that geographical region is a certain race.
