The hot debate in MLB right now is whether Pittsburgh Pirates flame-throwing rookie phenom, Paul Skenes, should be named starting pitcher for the National League in the upcoming All Star game.
He has already been named to the team but a starting pitcher has not been announced yet.
Most likely a more seasoned pitcher like Chris Sale or Ranger Suarez will be named the starter but I am in the camp that, while those guys are deserving, the best course of action for MLB is to have Skenes as the starter.
Skenes facing off against guys like Soto and Judge are the types of compelling matchups that would create viral moments for MLB much like the Ohtani vs Trout matchup in last year’s world baseball classic did. It’s an exhibition to market the game, why not treat it that way?
So out with convention, I say. Give the people what they want. Start the rookie.
Sats for all, GR
Just watched highlights of today's game, and I can't disagree.

Best pitching prospect since Strasburg. Hopefully he can avoid injury.

Pirates have the makings of a great rotation for years. They also have Mitch Keller who is a very good pitcher to compliment the young guys. Only problem with building around pitching is pitchers get hurt. Look at the Dodgers right now. Glasnow, Yamamoto, Buehler, Kershaw, May, Gonsolin all hurt. That doesn’t even include Ohtani who can’t pitch this year either.
It would be nice to see the Pirates be competitive for a few years. Hopefully their guys can stay healthy and they can add a couple more bats.

Your ballpark determines your strategy or should determine strategy whether it’s pitching or hitting etc

A starter in the all star game will go at most 3 innings like Roger Clemens in 1986 who got 9 outs
