I'm thinking about switching from Apple Notes to https://obsidian.md/
Pros:
- I love love love markdown
- The connections & graph view might make me more productive
- The idea of a "second brain" is very cool to me
Cons: - It wouldn't be as easily cross-device accessible like Apple Notes
- Mobile sync at all costs $96 per year
- A lot of effort moving. I have years worth of old notes that I need/want
Anybody here using Obsidian? Did you regret it or was it really worth it?
I love Obsidian ! so I made a Nostr plugin for it, check it out here. https://github.com/jamesmagoo/nostr-writer#readme Currently in review by the Obsidian team and will be available in community plugins soon🤞 You can try out the pre-release and install manually now though!
I used to be a productivity nerd, from Trello, Notion, Roam to Obsidian, but then I realized that I should pay more attention to my thoughts than the tool itself, so I am back to a real notebook and pen for deep thoughts and a simple markdown for content creation.
No more distractions! And I totally get the temptation to try the new cool ones, but there will always be something new.
I tried it a while ago before they released their mobile app, but I finally opted for a different one I could use on my smartphone.
You must keep at it for several months and develop a routine for updating your notes before you can see the rewards.
I also highly recommend reading the following books:

Yes, big fan. Over time I build a process/workflow for how to deal with notes and Obsidian was easy to configure to work really well for me.
I use it, it's a nice simple editor. Not much more than that, sometimes I am surprised about people talking about it religiously.
If you have an Umbrel node, you can use the synching app to backup your vaults real time automatically.
My impression about its "religiously" aspect is that the cross linking and elaborate graphs are a game changer in relation to how a human brain works which is why they advertise it as "second brain". I do have the problem that my personal quick notes and longer written texts are a spectrum as well.
I never thought about how it could integrate with something like Umbrel, that's really interesting, thanks!
Worth it. You can add pdf and sound files to the notes. Markdown is powerful too. I use it with cryptomator and Dropbox so I can use it on desktop or laptop when on the road whilst having it encrypted.
