It's only really possible if you aren't being micromanaged.
If possible, I advocate this for anyone in any kind of government work, but to be honest based on my own experience of government work most people already do this anyway because the incentive structures are fucked and no one really cares since the business isn't on the line based on performance either.
If you're private sector then you need to assess how reasonable the management are in terms of their expectations of your relative to compensation they provide.
