Recently @Coinsreporter wrote a very interesting article about wedding Market in India. I was much intrigues and looked for some data. What I came to know is a few ultra expensive weddings by Indian Royals and Billionaires. But the most shocking thing is that average middle class is now spending more than $20000 in weddings. Let's have a look.
Billionaire heir Anant Ambani married Radhika Merchant in Mumbai this past weekend, in an opulent ceremony attended by politicians and celebrities, from India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former UK prime ministers Boris Johnson and Tony Blair to Kim and Khloé Kardashian. The Ambanis, India’s wealthiest family and owners of the country’s largest private company, Reliance Industries, footed the bill for the extravagant three-day event, speculated to cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

"Average" is not necessarily indicative of middle class. Outliers exist. Median would be a better indicator.

Yes, you're right! Indian wedding Market is booming in recent years. I got married before 10 years and I hardly spent $20000k but now wedding expenses are treated as a symbol of your riches. This is I think the same for everywhere.

Indian weddings as you know have so many traditions and for every ritual you need to spend at 5 to 6 dollars from beginning. The 'Priest' is also there for churning as much money as possible. The sister-in-law will easily take away $200 for your shoes. All your relatives won't go without being given an INR 500 Note (At least 6 dollars). Also clites for everyone. Then food and decoration. Yes, last but not the least, Liquor 🥃 it will require at least $1k for your friends and relatives. Without it the party isn't a party here! There's so much my words can't describe. Yes, you're right. There's a tradition of feast for all relatives and people living around you on the 13th days after someone passed away. This feast is normally attended by 1000s of people and it also costs a lot here. I don't wanna comment on it as it's a cultural activity here. Everyone does it but I think it's just a waste of time and money.

nice connection between the chart and your name. Also one of my things. I's never ever pay any money for something like this. Also, i fcking hate weddings.
Of course the US number is crazy. but so is the Colombian number - in both countries, that´s about 3/4 of a year's salary. imagine that. You work for 9 months just to blow it on one night that's all ritual, and a tedious one at that.
