I remember reading about this in a chapter on Monetary History by Milton Friedman
well, if we really want to go down the history rabbit hole.. We would need to go back to Pohnpei in Micronesia- Nan Madol. The records(based on carbon) go back 12/15th century. Have fun looking at that, and it first started in the 8/9th century.
