Hey SN,
Microsoft was crowdstriked last day! All was nothing but deep in blue!
Still, people feel that MS has done a lot of good to the computers.
The outage is just another good!! My feedback!
So, why not you give one last obituary to Microsoft and share a feedback...

Is Microsoft to blame or is it the normies who aren't willing to spend any time learning how their own systems work? Which creates the market for heavily controlled products like windows and macos
reply
The problem is Crowdstrike more than Microsoft?

What about the outages in banks? Do banks not have good enough technical support staff to control it?
reply
My guess is there are some inside the banks who could do it, but not enough that they can do it at scale, and maybe the executives would rather trust third party providers than their own staff 🤷‍♂️
There's a legal / butt covering side to it too. If you outsource your security to a third party software you don't have to take as much blame if something goes wrong
reply
About third party, I think, you're right.

The time has come when the world discards all of Microsoft altogether!

I had a very low view of Microsoft and it hasn’t changed much in the last couple days.
reply
I have a very negative view on this, but honestly I think they will have learned from this. It was an incredible screw up that brought millions of people to question their technological reality and if it should stay with Microsoft or move to something else. We will see further distribution after this...

Just shows the risks of so much of the world’s digital infrastructure being dependent on a few companies.

My impression didn't change about Microsoft, they are de-facto the biggest software giant, their WinOS sucks and should never be used on servers (not designed for that). Azure is acceptable, since it brings competition and is cheaper if you play it right. Nothing changed there. I'm disappointed in CrowdStrike and how the "comfy" position they are now in, allowed them to be so reckless and not test the changes before roll-out. That's problem #1. No one expect Microsoft to be proactive and really care about customer, if someone is then it's on them for being naive and detached from the real world. CrowdStrike should take the beating for this in a big way (Elon already pulled them out), and if they want to stay alive they should start offering a lot of free services to re-build the trust (which is now gone). One crazy thing that came out of this event is the advertisement to the world how many companies still run on windows servers and how vulnerable they are. (where was your DR that you paid for?) All of them just put a big target on their back. I'm gonna grab some pop-corn and will enjoy watching this debacle for weeks to come...lol. Lessons learned from this (I hope) is to containerize as much apps as you can and if you can't, you should re-write them and run more kubernetes clusters. K8 is NOT a silver bullet and an answer to everything, but it does improve your security posture and roll-out procedures. That's my story and I'm sticking to it....

Maybe Crowdstrike was expecting Obama and the DNC to defend them? Probably not, they have their own drama and incompetence

Is it all of microsofts problems? To tell you the truth, I dont mind they system. I find it convenient to use. I also dont mind apple, but I dont like their phones. No system is perfect, and if there isnt competition, windows and microsoft will be on top forever.
reply
Hasn't changed, really. My opinion is still very low. Windows is garbage, with a terrible security model, and prone to hacks.
Tbf, it's not their fault that corporations across the world decided to install a shitty rootkit as "protection" and when said rootkit broke, it bricked their computers.

I have a hard time believing Microsoft has a trillion + market cap and stuff like this happens! Like wtf!
MS teams so so clunky and buggy all the software engineers they employ and they still have issues.
Yet people want to trash bitcoin and nostr that are making software work with peanuts
reply
Lot of businesses use windows and office like word, excel and PowerPoint.
Azure is also a large and growing cloud division
They completely missed mobile and smart phones but they have a large niche
I use windows 11 for my home laptop. Not a fan of windows but I don’t want to spend money on a new or used Mac

Can't get mad at them. No gun was pointed to any head for people to make their choices. I prefer linux because I consider it superior in its approach to development (it being Open Source), but you can't get mad at windows, they are the first ones that got to put the power of computers into the hands of the average men. It's sad that the newest versions are not honouring the old hard gained reputation, but I guess we are witnessing the effects of veterans retiring.
