I'm curious how their thesis will play out. While they were working on this, which is no small feat, everyone declared self-custody dead for plebs. Are plebs going to use custodial or federated custodial taproot assets and this is meant for "big players," or do they plan to make the non-custodial pleb UX competitive with Tron?

It's really not. Bikes get justified hate for being inherently unsafe. That's a sufficient reason, that's an argument. No one will justify bikes getting hate by saying "it's not a car", that's not how an argument works. Unless it's a flawed argument.
Be mindful I'm not saying that's your argument, but if what you brought up is the common argument, then it can be safely discarded.

I wonder if this will get exchanges to finally use LN now that their favourite shitcoin USDT will be available on it, if Tether does action as they said they would, might be good for bringing in some P2P liquidity
