China is rapidly becoming the global leader in semiconductor manufacturing, outpacing all other nations in building new chip factories. Since 2021, nearly 100 new semiconductor plants have been announced in China, according to data from supply chain consultancy Everstream, analyzed exclusively for Handelsblatt. This growth significantly surpasses efforts in the US and Europe, where 29 and 20 factories have been initiated respectively in the same period. Just this year, China has unveiled over two dozen new projects, cementing its dominant position in the industry.
