We are already in the middle of a tsunami of ongoing competitions and results. I was thinking today about the big amount of young people training for the last 4 years to get to this point. Sometimes, we concentrate on medalists and, very often, forget about the rest of participants. So, respect for all of them participating as they are winners already.
Today, one of these medalists, GB diver Mew Jensen who won a bronze, mentioned in an interview that she sustained a fracture in her back 3 months before The Games, commencing to prepared them just a month ago due to this condition. Outstanding performance from her side. I am sure we could hear more of these stories coming from any of the participants.
Another top moment of the day, from my point of view, was the Nadal/Alcaraz match at tennis doubles competition. It was a tough first set against Argentinians Gonzalez/Molteni, only decided at tie break. The second set also started uphill for the Spanish couple, losing 3-0. Then they recover, ending the match 7-6 and 6-4. It was the first time they both played together, so it is expected they could only improve from here.
Finally, bad news for the Canadian women’s football squad as FIFA docked 6 points from the team following a drone scandal. New Zealand complained to International Olympic Committee after noticing drones flying over closed practice sessions. Canada is hoping that allegations are successful as considers players are not involved in the malpractice.
Other sports starting today included fencing, rowing, swimming, table tennis, badminton, surfing, waterpolo, beach volleyball, boxing, hockey, basketball, cycling, judo, canoe slalom and gymnastics.
Regarding @oxbitcoiner ‘s pool , we have already had the first result in men’s rugby. France has won the gold medal against Fiji, with New Zealand winning the bronze.
Australia stands at the top of medal table with 3 golds (5 medals in total), followed by China with 2 golds and US with on gold.
Please feel free to comment if you consider I have missed any important issue today.
Keep enjoying The Games!
Canadian Men's Basketball team looked shaky in the 4th but held on to beat Giannis and the Greeks.
Did you see the game @Undisciplined @gnilma?
reply
I haven't been watching. Should I catch the highlights?
reply
Yeah. Very good game. Giannis was great. RJ and Shai played well for Canada.
reply
No, I was driving from Halifax to North Sydney. On the second week and final few days of my east coast road trip. Heading into Newfoundland soon. I'll check out the highlights when I wait for the ferry.
reply
Wow. You are a long way from home. Enjoy the east coast.
reply
Yea, we've been planning for this one for a while. Finally put it into reality this summer. The east coast is very pretty, with lots of beautiful historic building as well as amazing natural beauty. It's been a great trip so far. Looking forward to see Newfoundlad.

Talking from Spain point of view, very tough group. Not quite optimistic with going through to be honest. Congrats to you for the victory today!

Nadal/Alcaraz are not used to playing doubles with anyone
Their game is not made for doubles but being on clay helps
reply
It’s true and I think this is the only thing that concerns us in Spain. Nadal has even shown doubts about playing tomorrow the single match. I think he is confident in the doubles.
reply
Argentina also plays on clay
