For some reason, the WSJ isn't reporting this yet, which is just baffling (since, for very obvious reasons, they've been the outlet most closely on top of this story since it began over a year ago).

I think they were waiting for the White House's comment! We didn't get the notification until 10:35 so I could see that being the reason for the delay. Plus I bet they tried to figure out who the 7 unnamed deep cover spies from Norway, Poland, and Slovakia were

Yeah, it's just weird that they were two or three hours behind most others.

The WSJ was reporting weekly on Evan for the whole year in their podcasts and for a long long time there was a strip banner about Evan at the very top of the website.
My guess is they're waiting for confirmation or video evidence or something

"The men, jailed in Russia on espionage charges they and the US deny, are en route to destinations outside of Russia."
Doesnt russia always say it is espionage to put someone in prison.
I feel it is just a chess game between countries.

Where it is different at least with this WSJ reporter is that Russia hasn't arrested a U.S. media person for espionage since it was the USSR in I think 1986 so that was the big thing about the reporters arrest.

I know people have family and such in Russia but look compared to your life traveling there right now just isn't great esp with this Admin. Like you said they are just collecting people to use as trading chips!

Right.
Its so dangerous to even go near russia at this moment.
Its not companies or assets they are collecting anymore, its just people.

True! I'm not sure if you are aware but beyond the Ukraine border Russia is having a power problem. Sanctions have been biting in that aspect along with labor issues caused by the mobilization. Then once you throw in the war and its impacts then it only becomes more apparent and a critical issue.
China is one I could see capitalizing on it but BTC isn't controllable or answer to one person like China would want

Small side tidbit:
I can recommend the podcast 544 days. It's the story of a Washington Post held prison in Iran. His story is remarkably similar to Evans.

This is surprising! Russian Vadim Krasikov, a convicted murderer serving a life sentence in Germany for the 2019 killing of a former Chechen rebel commander in Berlin. A convicted murderer in a prisoner swap involving journalists and political prisoners is unusual and unexpected.
Course we swapped for Brittney Griner. Russia got the better deal on that one.
