It's Saturday, thus it is poll day!
We are about halfway through the 2024 Paris Olympic. This Olympics features 329 medal events across 32 sports. It's a lot to keep track of.
What do you think would be the optimal amount of medal events for the Olympics?

I like this range. It is enough that there is a wide range of sports and events but events can get a bit more attention because you don't have 10 events going on at the same time.

There are a few games which I don't think should even be involved in Olympics. They are only played because of Olympics. Also it's very boring to see so many events for games like Fencing and Equestrian.
It's been demanded for a long time that Cricket should be involved in Olympics. The country with largest population remains largely indifferent to Olympics only because Cricket isn't played there.
So, I hope that Olympics should make a balance by removing some extra events from games and add Cricket and Baseball. Also, Olympics should give a green signal to full strength football teams instead of only considering Under 23.
I've no objection to the current number of events.

To me it's still a fair and good range(329). I'm happy with this because almost all kind of sports are represented in this great event.

I think it’s a good argument. I would just prefer less events. 35 swimming events is alot.

I believe more events are challenging entertaining,but 35 in swimming? I totally agree with you,that's alot!

I say keep it coming. And it doesn't feel like as many as it is anyway, given how many are grouped together (I don't think of boxing and judo being multiple events, and even swimming and track tend to feel like groupings). I'm still salty about baseball and softball being kicked out (though supposedly we'll get them back in '28).

333 events would give them 999 medals. Toss in another one more Gold for top Olympian and you've got an even 1000.

Did you know they give an extra bronze in boxing events? There is no bronze medal fight. The two losers of the semifinals get bronze and the winners fight for gold. So that would throw off your math a bit.

I hate that. Do any of the tournament style competitions have bronze medal games?
I thought there was a different method of assigning 3rd place in competitions like that.

I think it is only boxing that does this but not sure. I only learned boxing did it a few days ago when a Canadian fighter won his quarterfinal match and the announcer said "and that will guarantee him a medal". At first I thought he had gotten overzealous and made a mistake but later in the broadcast they explained how it worked.

I think you could still have 25 or so different sports but decrease the amount of events per sport. I don’t know if you can get down to 100 but why do we need 35 different swimming events?

The current 329 is optimal. It's not where we need to track for every game. Most people only watch the sport that their country is doing well in. Also, in modern times it's not very difficult to keep attack of events.
