The dependency on Google services is unfortunate but seems to be the only way to wake up Phoenix without having to install third-party programs like UnifiedPush (which wouldn't work on iOS)?

Yes but will probably take some time until LND includes it or we run another node
Still waiting on bolt12's integration with LND. Lightning mining payouts would be great
