Yep, and they were soooo democratic that they tried to keep their citizens walled in!
Kinda like Canada these days with that insane exit tax...
Well, at least they did not whack their own for being homeless or depressed :-/

I don't recall East Germany having open immigration from North Africa and the Middle East

The leadership, they are equally removed from and deluded about what is going on outside of their bubble.
Lots of things are different, but this is the same, or even worse!
