Last week, I added Hacker News to the blocklist in my adblocker. I am done with their bullshit: most of the links are pseudoscience (aka pop sci) and most users treat each other like villains for having different opinions. HN is incredibly toxic; most SN users have no idea how good it is on SN. Bitcoin maxis get called toxic all the time, but assholes on HN get a pass.
This is roundabout way of saying thanks to @k00b for making SN.
What you say is true, but IMO there's still a lot of gold on HN near the top. I still learn a lot about technology there. Just avoid any thread on crypto or social media, those are all garbage fires. Maybe just avoid non-tech threads in general there.

I hate pop-sci. If something sounds plausible but is unproven doesn't make it science.

I'm sorry HN isn't your personal hugbox

Interesting.

Yeah it is interesting how bitcoin maximalists can't really go toe-to-toe with bitcoin critics, so they have to retreat from every forum that isn't explicitly pro-bitcoin.
I like HN, it's awesome. Whenever I get banned I just make a new account on another IP.

Intriguing.

Fascinating, even.

Do you get banned a lot?
reply
No, usually I can build up an account with a couple hundred karma and it won't get banned for a while. My accounts usually last a year or so before they get shadowbanned. You just cannot survive forever on that site if you post things that are disagreeable because any strong debate gets flagged to death.
But that is just how those forums work, the userbase is good but the rules are lame passive-aggressive bullshit so you're supposed to keep making new accounts and circumventing the rules.
Not this site though. This is like a notabug.io type of site that has sybil-proof (albeit flawed) voting system, low moderation and no block feature. There is basically no reason to make new accounts.

I welcome your account even though I still think BTC is better than Monero overall
