I’ll say this before any of you suspect too much about my qualifications to talk about Nostr.

For starters, I only learned about Nostr a week ago. So, take my review of this novel space on the interwebs as you would a first impression of an alien appearing in your room at 3:33 in the morning.

Like cool, but, also scary. Is this a visit from an alien that wants peace? Or is this an early visit to convince me that they come in peace, while secretly wanting to eat my brain and take over the universe?

See, I told you, scary.

There is a massive learning curve to being here, and there are a lot of highly skilled individuals that have pieced together incredible apps and use cases for this to work. And like every corner of this world, both digital and physical, there are right turns and wrong turns.

A person can operate their whole life living peacefully and get taken out by a tiny organism just because they swam in a lake on the wrong day in August. Or they can seek out trouble, create mayhem, and yet somehow end up being the leader of an entire country. (I’ll leave it up to you to decide who you’d consider a terrible leader that’s risen to power, history has many and I’m sure there’s some present day ones too!)

The point is, we are God. And we should not fear what is next. We have to take these risks for the future we want to see. People should feel free to say what they want, and free to distribute that information how they see fit. We should be free from censorship. We need to be free from censorship.

The value of meaningful content has too long been destroyed by algorithms and big corporations. We are forced to water down our efforts a la “Gary Vee style” just to get a couple likes that don’t equate to sales. All that work, scheduling posts, creating the perfect lighting for your shot, mixing the audio perfectly, for a brief spike of dopamine.

Sure, there are success stories. Chances to “go viral”. But if it’s not hot or doesn’t agree with a platform’s ethos, the life support of the consensus opinion will be cut off, like a fish pulled out of the pond.

Nostr gives us the power of the first fish that made the jump to land. The ability to breathe in both environments. Leaving one dangerous ecosystem to join another is crazy work, but look at all that spawned from that simple step in evolution.

There will be many casualties in pursuit of our personal freedoms, and I pay my respects to every fallen individual that has died for a cause they believe, whether I agree with them or not. Some lessons can be learned even in the worst choices.

As you venture out here in the Wild West of nostr and Bitcoin, be courteous, tip well, and make sure your boots are strapped when walking through tall grass. As you go deeper into the forest, make sure you are protecting yourself. Hold on tight to your cowboy hat.🤠
