We all have some understanding about ideas around ‘waking up’ or ‘awakening’. In modern times there is the idea of being ‘red pilled’, ‘the matrix’, being ‘woke’ or becoming aware of ‘the machine’ .
Historically many spiritual traditions had concepts around awakening such as the Buddhist ideas around ‘Maya’ - the illusory nature of things and ‘Nirvana’.
But what does awakening mean to you? Are there multiple levels of awakening or is it a one time life changing epiphany. Does awakening have anything to do with spirituality or is it more to do with comprehending society on a deeper level, seeing through propaganda or seeing the power structures that manipulate us?
I’d be interested to hear Stackers thoughts and of any good texts on the subject. Thanks.

to be awake for me is to open a book (post, podcast, video) with an open well-rested mind. same goes for interaction with people in the real world - let the experience flow naturally, try not to create mental or physical barriers as long as nothing wrong appears to manifest. when a wrong starts manifesting, then only the awake mind can start correcting the wrong.

Do you mean like a present awareness, not dissociated or preoccupied?
reply
i like that too. tired, noise-polluted mind reverts to all kinds of easy shortcuts. new neural connections take work to form, it's hard work.

When you wake up just thank God.Period

Yes i tend to think of awakening as a spiritual process, not merely an intellectual understanding . 💯

How is waking up, or an awakening, different from being "woke?"
reply
They are the same if you are talking about the original meaning of "woke".

Waking up can mean different things depending on the context, ranging from a physical, mental, or metaphorical perspective. to me the moment you become self aware of who you are

To be awake, is to be one with the universe. It is to be, completely, in the present moment, and in touch with ones surroundings, nature, and ones own mind. It is, to be, in touch, in tune with ones surrounding environment. To be in total alignment with oneself. To be in the right time, at the right place.
