SAN SALVADOR, August 13, 2024 – Mi Primer Bitcoin, a bitcoin education non-profit rooted in El Salvador, announced its groundbreaking fundraiser, in its effort to teach a total of 100,000 students about bitcoin. This campaign on Geyser, a bitcoin-only crowdfunding platform, highlights the vision of the organization to remain independent and impartial, as it focuses on both grassroots education but also funding.
Mi Primer Bitcoin, also known as My First Bitcoin, is the world leader in independent, impartial, and community-led bitcoin-only education. Their philosophy focuses on bitcoin education as a means toward empowering students and teachers.

Reach in 20 countries, focus on El Salvador

Since 2021 it has taught over 35,000 students in El Salvador about bitcoin and created open-source resources like the 10-week Bitcoin Diploma program and the Educator's Lesson Plan. The curriculum has been used in over 20 countries by more than 30 projects, including independent education projects in Argentina, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras, India, Kenya, Nigeria, Peru, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. But this is still the beginning.
In October 2023 the Ministry of Education (El Salvador) began to use the Diploma as its primary source for their own Bitcoin Diploma program. My First Bitcoin assists them on their mission to bring bitcoin education to every school in the nation, including training 700+ teachers.
In 2024 My First Bitcoin began work to create new material for younger audiences at the request of the Ministry of Education. Since the non-profit never takes government funding, the only condition of this collaboration is that all materials created are open-source and can be freely used by bitcoin educators around the world.

Teach 100,000 students

Mi Primer Bitcoin aims to increase their total number of graduates from 35,000 to 100,000 through different strategies. One key initiative involves bringing individuals together in classroom settings, such as those at the MPB House in San Salvador.
Additionally, the dedicated education team, composed of a handful of talented and devoted Salvadoran teachers, is actively engaging schools and communities across the country. Mi Primer Bitcoin plans to conduct its Bitcoin Diploma program in 90 individual classes, targeting a total of 2,700 students. Beyond these classes, the expert team aims to educate entire schools to ensure that the future generations are well-versed in bitcoin. This effort includes partnering with 10 public schools, reaching an additional 10,500 students.
Aligned with the values and ethos of bitcoin, all educational materials created by Mi Primer Bitcoin are available as open source. This comprehensive curriculum will be taught to over 50,000 additional students globally through a network of nodes, other educators, and individual bitcoin enthusiasts.
In order to scale the operations without compromising its core value, Mi Primer Bitcoin relies heavily on the community for its funding. Remaining impartial and independent means that all grassroots donations not only support the day-to-day educational operations, but also help the team to remain pure and impartial.

Crowdfunding campaign

The newly launched Geyser campaign, targeting to raise a total of 5 bitcoin, is a living proof of this ethos. This campaign highlights how we can do this altogether, in order to teach the next 100,000 students. Interested parties can donate either as a Participant, Supporter, Ambassador or Gamechanger.
