Exactly1 month ago on the date when SN added polls, I made a post about Pollaversary. The post was made out of fun and in a celebration mode but it gathered some very good ideas regarding 'how we can popularise this segment on SN'.
One idea that I liked so much so that I want it to be executed now. Before that, let's first take a look at what the idea was:
One of the problems is how they get buried under new content and no one ends up seeing the result. ā€” @Undisciplined
For the first part of the suggetion, I'm sure that some of the stackers have listened and creating some fun polls which aren't getting buried. There's a definite spike in poll posts and one stacker @BitcoinAbhi has to be credited for creating some normal day to day life related funny yet very important polls. For the efforts, polls aren't getting buried but the second part that's about seeing the results still persists. We can't blame anyone for this but to seeing the poll results, there's no other way than to find the poll again look for the results by yourself. I want to suggest here two things, may be nothing suggestions, but here they are ā€”
  • A notification to all who participated in the poll
  • Stackers can now do it all by themselves by using @remindme
For now, I'm gonna start this Monthly Top Polls Result series and to remind you all how your vote fared?
Drumroll please!! Here are the Top 5 SN Poll Results for August 2024!

#1

Result and Implications:

It's evident that orange piling rate isn't upto the mark, we need to increase the dose. We also need to build some more Bitcoin meetup hospitals where we treat shitcoiners and nocoiners with the orange pill. We also need to revamp our Orange Pill advertisement strategy. We can ask Trump to endorse Orange Pill and let the world Sing MO'GA MO'GA (With 'P' is silent)

#2

Result and Implications:

Stackers have spoken, they're not enjoying the shift to more privacy, more decentralisation stuff. Yes, we can easily guess how stackers (there seems so) are still under the influence of age long centralized slavery. Or is it technically too different and difficult?

#3

Result and Implications:

Mixed results on this one. No clear majority. The topic of covenants needs more educating to our stackers. A lot of from them don't know anything about covenants. Fron those who know, it's a clear 'No' or 'Yes' with conditions?

#4

Result and Implications:

Information abundance and technology are in one way attached to each other and that's our world of internet. If it wasn't for tecnology, the information wouldn't be so much and free. But don't read Harris's Campaign m

#5

Result and Implications:

This is the most sought after question after 'How can Bitcoin fail? Yes, but we can laugh because people are ready to make a chart on the basis of foolish questions about Bitcoin. Butcoin has really got popular, even a newborn baby cries for Bitcoin instead of milk. What hasn't grown though is the education and adoption at the same speed. Half of which goes to shitcoins and half to useless governments. To grow adoption, we need to progress with Bitcoin education
So, these are the top 5 results, I hope you can now plan, base and move forward in your life accordingly. I don't know if I said that right! So, I leave it to you. These are very small numbers for a poll or survey but I hope with increased popularity, we can see many stackers turn towards these polls.
With this being said, I humbly request you to please guide me on a few points.
  • Should I do this post Weekly? I intend to do it weekly.
  • Should I only include those polls which have generated enough votes? For the next time I intend to include only those which have at least 50 votes.
Kindly have your say!!
Thanks for reading!!
Thank you so much for the mention! I'm just doing polls because I saw there were not many polls on SN. I didn't know you were behind them to make them great.
Great post! I think a weekly recap would be better.

Well done! You're doing a great job for polls. I really love your polls. Very simple and straightforward! Keep it going!

I love polls! Fun polls have been my favourite segment on other platforms when I used. If you want to make them popular, it'll be good to overall SN engagement.
reply
I'm not sure about the vote threshold, but I think this is a great idea for a weekly recap series.
reply
Thanks! I'm looking at vote threshold because a poll may be a top post even without so many votes on it, which I think downsizes the overall purpose of a poll.

What an interesting post. Actually doing this study on a weekly basis could help to some extent, but there are some that last more than 7 days, won't that affect the analysis? But it is a very good idea.
reply
I'll not take those polls which aren't finished.
reply
Not one of my sports polls? I need to step up my game in September.
reply
Yes! You really need to step up!
While creating this, I've also been looking at the performance of posts from various territories. I was surprised not to find any in at least top 300 posts for the month from ~Stacker_Sports
reply
If you search by comments or sats you will find a few but probably not by zaprank. Stacker Sports posts are usually popular but not top post of the day because they don't really appeal to a wide group of stackers. There are only a small group of us that like to talk about sports on SN.
reply
One of my favourites territories in SN!!
Yes, that may be the reason. Still we need to overcome these.

Now that you mentioned it I truly believe that polls are a good addition to Stacker News experience. You are engaging us to vote for something that we believe in. The idea about those with 50 votes is perfect for getting the pulse of the active participants in the polls. Also it is not that hard to look for the results since the search engine of Stacker News is near perfection.
